My name is Sam Carvell and I’ve been a resident in the village since 2016; I live with my husband and two children, with my eldest currently attending the school.  My daughter has always enjoyed her time at the school and has been well supported throughout the years - I want to be able to support the school in ensuring that all other pupils continue to have the same positive experience of education that my daughter has. My background is in the Education Sector; I qualified as a Secondary School teacher in 2011 and have taught at a local school for over 12 years. Over this time, I have held a number of Middle Leadership roles, including leading my subject, being a pastoral leader and working within the Teaching and Learning team, focusing on the development of staff. I also have experience of working with young people as a youth/play worker, have been a member of Lightmoor PTA since 2022 and for over 20 years, have been a volunteer with Girlguiding UK. I have a specific interest in ensuring that all young people have an understanding of the diverse world that we live in and develop an appreciation of both their own culture and beliefs, as well as that of those around them. I was keen to join the governing board at our school as I want to do my bit in ensuring that all pupils have access to the best opportunities, both with regards to the curriculum and extra-curricular experiences, to support them in reaching their full potential, whilst ensuring they feel safe and happy during their time with us.
